WARTAK, Gerald

Elevate Langley Assoc.

Council Candidate

Gerald Wartak is the founder and lead strategist of a successful Langley-based business.  He has decades of experience in taking projects from idea, through strategy, to execution, and ultimately using post-development analytics to fine-tune operations to maximize efficiency. His Applied Science degree in Interactive Design, combined with an entrepreneurial passion for driving small business growth, provided him the perfect ingredients to build and grow a successful marketing and design firm over the last 15 years.

As an owner and operator of a small business, Gerald understands the importance of working with his team through all the phases of project development.  It is this ability to thrive in a team environment that has proven extremely valuable in other aspects of Gerald’s life, including the last 6 years he’s dedicated to coaching both Langley Minor Hockey and Langley Minor Lacrosse in the Township of Langley.

With respect to Lacrosse specifically, Gerald saw a need for greater exposure and growth in female box and field lacrosse in this community and so he joined the Langley Minor Lacrosse Association executive in 2018 as the female coordinator. Gerald held this position for 3 years, and in 2021, in conjunction with his fellow executives, introduced new policy to include a new position of “Director of Female Program”.  In November 2021, Gerald was voted the first Director of Female Program by the general membership, a position he currently still holds.

In his personal life, Gerald and his wife, Kim, have proven to be an effective team together. They met during university in 1999, married in 2004, lived abroad in Japan as young professionals (extending a one year contract into three years to fully immerse themselves into the cultural experience, while also sharing their Canadian culture through an international exchange program), and eventually settled in the Township of Langley to build a life for their family. They have a 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son, both engaged in Langley schools, sports and recreation. Kim shares Gerald’s passion for the community as she works for a non-profit, supporting Langley families with children at-risk for developmental delays.

Living in the Township of Langley for over 9 years, Gerald found himself interested in the workings of the Township and wondering if his years of experience in project planning and execution could be useful to his community on a larger scale. While he did not initially see himself as a politician, he always appreciated his discussions with his friend Rich Coleman and respected him as a leader with an unparalleled depth of experience in the workings of municipal and provincial function. When Coleman spoke to Gerald about advocating for change as an elected Councillor, Gerald was immediately convinced that working with Coleman and the rest of the Elevate Langley team, was the right fit to deliver a new, innovative perspective to the Township of Langley.

Wartak has some very specific goals in mind as he enters the race for Councillor.  Firstly, he wants to focus on the inefficiencies and red tape surrounding several of our antiquated TOL policies and systems. Additionally, Gerald is extremely nervous about the various expenditure projects being publicised by others in the Langley mayor race, and wants to ensure new projects include strategic investment financing coupled with fiscal responsibility to ensure these don’t become another burden on our tax-payers.  Lastly, Gerald wants to ensure the fair and equitable distribution of facilities among the many stakeholders in the Township, whether recreational, cultural, or social.

Gerald believes in the possibilities of the Township of Langley and hopes to collaborate with everyone to make a great city even better.
