DELORME, James

Elevate Langley Assoc.

Council Candidate

James Delorme is passionate about the Fraser Valley, where has lived for five years. He wants to bring his lifetime experience in community building, connecting people and expanding economic opportunity to the Township of Langley, including local First Nations in the experience.

Prior to this, he spent many years on the BC coast as Chief of Klahoose First Nation. His profile and mandates were to support economic development, social impact and capacity building for Indigenous people. As Chief, he oversaw engagement in the Toba Montrose and Jimmie Creek clean energy project, working on many aspects of community involvement and ensuring not only the Klahoose people but the citizens of the Strathcona Regional District and the town of Powell River to make sure fair and equal participation was the cornerstone of his work.

In 2019, to combine his interest and skills in computers and the digital world with his love of business, he started a company called Indigeknow that advances the technology economy and creates positive social impacts for Indigenous people.

His work with the First Nations Health Authority and his understanding of the challenges in most Indigenous communities drive him to use his technical resources to help solve some of the problems of rural and remote health needs through new tech solutions.

During the pandemic, the use of technology to bridge gaps between need and solution grew, and so did Indigeknow. Delorme began providing strategic input in many communities to advance social impact, expand Indigenous access to online resources, and ensure cultural safety and humility.

“The good people of the Township of Langley are friendly, courteous and care about their community. This is why I am running in this election. These folks deserve leadership, who care about the region and will live up to and uphold the standards this community expects.”

Delorme loves Langley and its strong sense of community. He has worked with the Kwantlen, Matsqui, Sumas and other First Nations in the area and believes he can be the bridge between the regional Indigenous people and local government, representing and advocating for First Nations while engaging in a collaborative spirit with all interest groups.

In addition to technology, Delorme has a strong background in tourism and resource development, enjoying the creative experience of collecting and telling local stories, and finding and developing local resources. He is Vice President of the Valley West Stampede, the first of its kind in Langley, and is enjoying the work and energy of the people and project.

James Delorme has known Rich Coleman for years and worked together on successful projects in Rich’s role with the Province of BC. He respects and admires him, especially the fact that he is results-oriented and knows how to lead a team. He looks forward to working with him again on behalf of the people of Langley.

Delorme is married with three adult children, all of whom work in similar fields including tourism, economic development, and construction.
